    This thesis analyses the influence of Geography on the subjective, creative and emotional expression of light in a film. To develop a broad understanding on varied visual aesthetics, a comparison is made between cinematographers Santosh Sivan and Darius Khondji, who originate from and work in different parts of the world. A detailed qualitative study of the films Dil Se (1998), The Terrorist(1998), Evita (1996)and Se7en (1995) is presented using tools of Composition and Lighting for analysis. A further comparison in lieu of treatment of geography across the films reveals its impact on the Poetics of Light in the films.
