- Artificial Intelligence and CreativityEranezhath, Rony(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2019)Datum obhajoby: 2019-06-14The main purpose of this thesis is to discuss whether a mechanical device using artificial intelligence can create a piece of art. I will explore the changing relationship of technology as a medium used by the artists to create art. Furthermore there are new and more powerful technologies such as pre coded algorithms that have the power to create some of the most complex artworks. Questioning deeper into complex reasons of what makes some certain creations a piece of art. To render a better understanding of the human element which goes into making art such as creativity, emotion, intent and a social cause and why machine would fail to capture these basic essence of creating art . Not to mention, where does a role of authorship stand for us and the artificial intelligence even though artificial intelligence is able to make their own decisions depending on the algorithm provided. I will Further investigate how technology has played an important role in the field of art from the early periods such as impressionism and cubism. Moreover, I will discuss how these rapid developments in the technology is altering our social interaction and the visual landscape through digital art. In addition, I will note on how these developments are culminating in a culture of individuality and celebration of unique perspective.
- FOTOPUBESSmodej, Josip(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2018)Datum obhajoby: 2018-09-07In my thesis I want to explore the Slovenian contemporary photographic art focusing on the youngest artists who have recently graduated art schools and have started developing a new strain of fine art photography in Slovenian artistic space. Slovenia, not having a photography programme on any of it's art academies until recently, was always under influence of countries where Slovenian photography artists have studied, that being mainly Czech Republic and Serbia in the 90s and mainly UK, Germany, The Netherlands or France nowadays - the difference in the aesthetical and generally artistic expression is obvious. While most of the countries in Eastern Europe have seemingly lost the connection with the contemporary fine art scene, especially on the photographic field in the time of the post-digital art, Slovenia has kept it or rather gained it through the influence of its artists mainly studying abroad in the most developed western countries and not in Slovenia itself. On the other hand, the Slovenian photography scene has encountered an enormous problem as the artists studying abroad do not return to their motherland after finishing their studies - a trend that has gained on influence and popularity mainly in the last five years and is now almost becoming normality. The question therefore is if those artists can be counted as Slovenian or not at all, as example Aleksandra Vajd, who is one of the most influential Slovenian photography artists and at the same time one of the first ones who stayed in the country of her studies. In my bachelor thesis I would like to create an outline of the most contemporary Slovenian photographic arts with a selection of the most influential or the main artists working in the Slovenian art space, comparing them to the Slovenian artists working in foreign art spaces in the same time and researching and deciding if both groups can be discussed in the discourse of the Slovenian art or are they foreign to each other. In my work I plan to research artists, their works and their exhibitions, focusing on the aesthetical and conceptual aspects of their work, the differences and similarities between them and the comparison to their countries of studies and influences. I mainly plan to work with curatorial texts, exhibition catalogues and interviews with artists and my personal archive to research this topic.
Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2019)Datum obhajoby: 2019-06-14A hologram is a photographic recording of a spatial light field, rather than of directional light formed by a lens. Its defining quality is a three-dimensional appearance that exhibits visual depth cues and can be viewed without the aid of intermediate optics. The holographic method was invented in 1947 and its technology advanced throughout the twentieth century, most notably since the development of the laser in the early 1960s. It has contributed to numerous scientific innovations and applications in the fields of industry, business, and medicine. Culturally, holography has fascinated society by positioning itself early on as the photograph of future and making its way into entertainment such as science-fiction films. This paper will examine the emergence of the hologram, from its scientific origins to its manifestations in commercial and popular culture. The aim of this work is to better understand holography as a photographic medium, its history, and to provide some insight to its future potentiality with the recent development of 3D digital displays.
- On the meaning of cigarette smoking in fashion photographyGong, Hanlu(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2019)Datum obhajoby: 2019-06-14Smoking has become popular among women mainly since the 1920s Lucky Strike "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet" campaign promoting cigarettes as a symbol of liberated, healthy and attractive woman. During the following decades, all cigarette brands used similar advertising strategies for attracting their customers, very often using celebrities in their advertisements and employing slogans describing cigarette smoking as a symbol of attractiveness, sex-appeal, success and even fitness and healthiness. Since the 1970s anti-smoking initiatives became successful in many countries all over the world leading to laws restricting the advertising of cigarettes on television, radio and in some cases even in printed magazines, newspapers and on billboards. Since 1990s many countries required to display a health warning on cigarette advertisements and adopted further laws restricting tobacco advertising and cigarette smoking itself. But despite this broad and robust anti-smoking campaigns, it seems that in the fashion industry, there is still a strong bias for depicting models while smoking cigarettes. The aim of the thesis is thus to analyze the work of three famous fashion photographers (Helmut Newton, Edward Steichen, Keith Trumbo), decipher meanings of cigarette smoking models in their photographs (fetishism, the liberation of women etc.), and trace, how (if at all) they have reflected anti-smoking campaigns. Photographs for the analysis will be selected mainly from the Vogue Archive.
- Sally Mann and David Hamilton. Comparison in the context of nymphet archetype and its photographic representations.Sekta, Karol(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2017)Datum obhajoby: 2017-09-13Thesis would be based on deep studies conducted on two photographers - Sally Mann and David Hamilton. The form of work is going to be a result of comparison of two creative paths which led artists to very the same effect (and provoke quite the same questions of perversity/legality/aesthetics/kitsch). Even if photographers acted in completely different intentions(presenting directly opposite approaches to art piece as such), still they have a lot in common. In result I would deposit this specific relation between two circles (represented strongly by two mentioned artists) on this quite specific dualism of motherhood-like and intimate approach of Sally Mann depictions contrary to David Hamilton's aggressive, straightly sexual way of photographing his young "subjects-objects".
