- The Rise of Palestinian Cinema:Abou Kharroub, Farah(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2024)Datum obhajoby: 2024-09-13This thesis explores the representation of the Palestinian experience in global cinema through a comparative analysis of six films: Here and Elsewhere by Jean-Luc Godard, A World Not Ours by Mahdi Fleifel, The Tower by Mats Grorud, Children of Shatila by Mai Masri, The Dupes by Tewfik Saleh, and It Must Be Heaven by Elia Suleiman. The primary objectives are to examine how these films address themes of displacement, identity, and resilience, and to analyze the diverse stylistic approaches and narrative structures employed by the filmmakers. Utilizing a qualitative methodology rooted in comparative film analysis, the thesis delves into how each film contributes to the broader discourse on Palestinian identity and the ongoing struggles of its people. The results reveal that while these films vary in stylefrom documentary realism and animation to surrealist satirethey collectively offer a nuanced and multifaceted portrayal of the Palestinian experience. The analysis underscores the interconnectedness of personal and collective memory, the negotiation of identity, and the enduring impact of displacement across generations. The thesis concludes that these films not only document the Palestinian struggle but also actively shape the narratives surrounding it, providing a foundation for further research into the evolving representation of Palestinian identity in cinema.
