- Getting Lost in a Sea of AirHupfeldt Nielsen, Kirstine(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Divadelní fakulta, 2024)Datum obhajoby: 2024-09-13Eclectically drawing upon literature and art works from various fields, in this thesis I reflect upon and contextualise the process of devising respectively my first-year performance and my final performance in MA DOT: The River Creature and The Peculiar Prague Pigeon Post Performance with Pipes. In both performances, albeit in very different ways, I search for something amorphous and unknown, something that keeps escaping me and that can only be perceived as signs and traces, but never in its entirety. Starting from the shared topic of search, I explore the effects (dramaturgical, performative and thematic) that the search itself produces and how these effects influence my method of devising and the performances themselves. Through the search, then, I study the relationships between many opposite concepts such as chance and control, reality and fiction, forward process-orientedness and backward sense-making, failure and success, trust and distrust, absence and presence, object and subject and how they behave in and influence my particular process of devising. Working with the opposites in the search, I propose - and remind myself - to always add an order-resisting and duality-blurring bug to the performance-machine. I argue that only by creating a new (performative) language of irrational signs, the amorphous - or the fictional within the real - can peek out; only by deliberately placing a bug, one can embrace and maybe create the amorphous.
- I AM JUST COOKING: PERFORMATIVE HEALING IN THE TIMES OF COVID-19 CATASTROPHEAleinikovas, Arnis(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Divadelní fakulta, 2022)Datum obhajoby: 2022-06-15In this thesis I aim to reflect on the works I did in the Academy of Performing arts Prague (2019-2021). My interest varied from physical, bodily experiences, somatic to a digital art that was constructed jumping from Quantum Mechanics, post-internet art and artificial intelligence. In this thesis I reflect on my thinking on healing, performativity and being. I raise the questions such as: “what does it mean to perform in the age of catastrophe (this is how I refer to the COVID-19 time) and what (if) we can take anything from it in terms of performativity?”. Referring to different artists, theorists and scientists I am going to its’ origins and contemplating performativity in terms of healing. Another concept that follows the thinking and is presented in this thesis is “Inner dramaturgies”, that was a main methodology creating a dramaturgy in my recent works. It has started its’ development in the solo performance “ROOM IN 286/75” and later was expanded in my following works.
- Sister, Mother, LoverBook, Katharina Joy(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Divadelní fakulta, 2023)Datum obhajoby: 2023-09-14Through reflecting on and contextualizing the process of creating “Yours Now”, my final work on MA DOT, this thesis decodes the physical language of the performance and expands on its literary and aesthetic references. By conducting a close reading of the two versions of the solo performance, the thesis considers how the eroticism of grief is comparable to how desire works in a staged encounter and how this dynamic is expressed through the choreography of the piece as well as its relationship to the audience. Looking at strategies of artifice and remove, as well as methods of narrative fragmentation and nonlinear temporality, I develop a movement language that translates between text, speech and the body through an engagement with the absent and invisible. Doubt, unease and distrust are identified as generative states for a consideration of more general questions concerning theatrical time, queer time, visibility and truth, and the position of a performer on stage.
