Abstrakt
This study is a retrospective examination of the authors experiences as an actor from a subjective, phenomenological perspective. After three years of intensive psychosomatic study in the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy, the author reflects on her prior process in her more conventional stage work in order to establish a concrete account of her process and how it has expanded, evolved, and adapted through her training in Authorial Acting.
The author enters into dialogue with various historical perspectives from different performance theorists, critical theorists, and psychoanalysts. The author reexamines the now-defunct diagnosis of hysteria as a type of subjectivity, a lens through which to view her own internal processes, and a potential artistic tool if properly understood and implemented. Finally, the author revisits her own reflections on her work with Dialogical Acting with the Inner Partner, and how it has helped her reach an internal accord from which authorial creation can proceed.
This thesis contributes to the emerging field of Authorial Acting by offering an individual, experiential account of one performers experience with its disciplines, as well as the elucidations offered by these.
