Abstrakt
Photography of Japan during the postwar period went through a radical transition from photo-realist approach which was focused on the study of national identity of the country to a more subjective approach of a new generation of photographers affected by the devastation of war. They have developed a new visual language and the themes of their photography were often highly personal in nature. The goal of this work is to analyze the influences on this change within the historical and social context of postwar Japan.
