  • Bezkamerová fotografie Běly Kolářové

    Úvodní část práce přináší stručné shrnutí historické geneze bezkamerové fotografie v kontextu obecných dějin fotografie. V souladu s koncepcí G. Batchena práce zdůrazňuje autonomii tohoto technologického a vyjadřovacího postupu a kvalitativní souměřitelnost s postupy a projevy klasické kamerové fotografie. Tato „historie fotogramu“ vrcholí v rozvoji avantgardních fotografických experimentací, zejména v systematickém rozpracování Man Rayových „rayogramů“. Vůči avantgardnímu konceptu (dadaismus, Bauhaus, prvky grafického konstruktivismu) se vymezuje pojetí Běly Kolářové z počátku 60. let 20. století, jež tvoří vlastní téma práce. Specifické postupy a konkrétní výsledky její tvorby („umělé negativy“, „rentgenogramy kruhu“, „kresby světlem“) jsou sledovány v kontextu tvůrčích experimentací české umělecké scény té doby: vizuální poezie, koláže J. Koláře, český informel, neokonstruktivismus a geometrická abstrakce, skupiny Konfrontace a Křižovatka. Originalita přínosu Běly Kolářové je reflektována skrze analýzu interpretačních prací české kunsthistorie (J. Hlaváček, J. Valoch, K. Císař, J. Padrta aj.). Práce zdůrazňuje, čím se její tvorba fotogramů konvenčním klasifikacím vymyká a v čem konkrétně se vztahuje k neodvozeným tvůrčím zdrojům a konceptualizacím (M. Duchamp, R. Caillois, surrealismus, W. Benjamin). Z těchto komparativních aspektů vyplývají závěry zobecňující přínos a význam bezkamerové fotografie Běly Kolářové jako legitimní části dějin českého výtvarného umění 2. poloviny 20. století.
  • Bhopal's Dual Legacy in Images

    The thesis locates itself in between two primary archives of Bhopal, a city in central India. The first archive is that of the princely state that existed in colonial India, governed by Nawab Begums (Muslim Women rulers) and the second, more contemporary and arguably more relevant archive of the infamous Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Both these archives in juxtaposition to each other, work as opposing binaries in the civil imagination. The idea of the city swings from a romantic by-gone era of the Begums to the contemporary occlusion of the disaster archive. This shape-shifting narrative of the city when examined through their imperially informed genesis, dissolves these binaries and helps represent a localized, post-colonial spatialization of its visual economy.
  • Éra mačiatok: Estetika roztomilosti v súčasnom umení

    Roztomilosť pôsobí na poli estetických a emočných sfér. Roztomilosť ako afekt zahŕňa súbor vizuálnych a behaviorálnych vlastností, ktoré sú schopné vyvolať fyzickú alebo emocionálnu reakciu v tele subjektu. V prípade roztomilosti ako estetickej kategórie sa s touto reakciou manipuluje pre komerčné účely, ako umelecký prejav alebo pre vyjadrenie pocitov. V diplomovej práci sa budem zaoberať pojmom roztomilosti a jej využitím v súčasnom umení. Spočiatku budem skúmať genézu tohto pojmu z psychobiologického, sociologického a kulturologického hľadiska. Budem sa venovať pôvodu samotného výrazu anglického slova ''cute'' a japonského výrazu ''kawaii'' a ich vývoju.  Neskôr sa zameriam na aspekty roztomilosti v súčasnej spoločnosti, kde sa roztomilosť stala jedným zo silných marketingových nástrojov ale i nástrojov k predsazovaniu politických záujmov, čo uvediem na konrétnych prípadoch. Estetický aspekt pojmu roztomilosti potom budem skúmať v rámci súčasného umeleckého prejavu, pričom v tejto analýze zahrniem tak sociologické ako i lorenziánske (biologické) hľadisko. V práci budem sledovať aj motiváciu pracovať s roztomilosťou na poli hi-tech technológií. Roztomilosť možno v rámci jej estetiky diferencovať na viacero podkategórií (napr. ''creepy-cute'', ''tortutrer-cute'', ''sexy-cute'', ai.), ktoré načrtnem tak v teoretickej ako i v exemplárnej časti. V celku práce sa zároveň dostanem k jednotlivým  tvorcom a ich dielam, ktorí s roztomilosťou pracujú vo svojej tvorbe.
  • Humour sanctifies horror

    The thesis analyzes a growing aesthetic tendency in Colombian photography based on humour and laughter as a form of social venting. The main characteristics are a depiction of social division, poverty and violence, and the use of mockery, counterfeits, and cheap materials. This thesis begins with a general overview for which the author proposes the term “Macondian Photography” and follows with an analysis of the work of three particular artists active over the period starting from 1970 till 2018. They are Paola Rojas, a fine art photographer and winner of Colombia’s National Photographic Award that; El Chino, personal photographer of Pablo Escobar, and Luis Ospina, one of the proponents of the pornmisery movement. Investigation shows the use of satiric, humor, and burlesque elements to reflect over serious, violent, or stressful situations in Colombia. It also demonstrates a connection with the literary movement “Magic Realism” and one of its founders’ writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Results also reveal influences that Europe and North America had on Latin American artists and how they stepped away from these tendencies to create a form of representation of Colombia’s cultural identity.
  • Iconoclasm, semiotics of Leninfall

    The present work is an analyse of the phenomenon of Leninfall in Ukraine. This analysis explains the historical aspect of the destruction of the statue for a better understanding of iconoclasm and its meaning. The cases studied are depicting diverse types of iconoclasms through history and show the differences between them. In the specific case of the statues in Ukraine and other countries in eastern Europe, this is a studied based on comparisons in the goal to understand which type of expectation can be awaited in Ukraine. The work led to show that the destruction and then the reconstruction of the statue of Lenin in Ukraine can be considered as a sovereignty question. The need of space purification and the boundaries of these iconoclast actions interrogate about the boundaries of iconoclasm.

    Large format photography refers to the photographic practice that utilizes a large light sensitive surface to capture photographs. As of 2018, large format photography is still a subset of analog photography. The digital revolution brings us into the digital era. Manufacturers and businesses in the photography industry is forced to adapt the transition from analog to digital in order to survive and succeed in the new market. Meanwhile, photography theorists find themselves facing a new set of issues because the photographs have become immediate and immaterial. While camera manufacturers have in effect accelerated the analog-to-digital transition with their proactive business strategies and relentless marketing campaigns, higher education has become the last bastion for the analog where large format camera classes teach students the tradition of photography and how to see the world contemplatively.
  • Nočné kluby a fotografia

    V svojej práci sa venujem roli fotografie v klubovej scéne orientovanej na elektronickú tanečnú hudbu. V práci zhrňujem historický kontext vývoja klubovej scény ako aj najvýraznejších fotografov, ktorí scénu dokumentovali a interpretovali. Ďalej sa venujem umelcom, ktorí túto tému spracovávali v svojej práci s využitím fotografického média. V druhej časti pomocou literatúry, internetových zdrojov a dotazníkov popisujem praktiky štyroch nočných klubov, v ktorých je fotografovanie zakazované alebo obmedzované. Venujem sa tomu akým spôsobom kluby tento zákaz uplatňujú a aké na to majú dôvody. V záverečnej časti tieto dôvody zhŕňam a snažím sa vyvodiť čím je v tomto kontexte fotografia problematická. Cieľom práce je odpozorovať vplyv fotografie na klubovú scénu, ako na fotografiu kluby reagujú, a čo to vypovedá o fotografickom médiu samotnom.
  • Postcolonial Photography in Vietnam

    The thesis presents current practices in Vietnamese photography from the perspective of colonialism. Following the boom of tourism in the post-colonial era, photography has become more prevalent than ever. The aesthetic of photography has been significantly influenced by mass-tourism, contributing to the emergence of a new form of colonialism. The thesis will also present work of photographers and visual artists that avoid adopting colonial perspectives in their work.
  • Principy a strategie auratičnosti v uměleckých dílech

    Ve své magisterské práci se zaměřuji na principy a strategie auratičnosti v uměleckých dílech. Tato práce vysvětluje staré a zároveň hledá nové přístupy, které umělci využívají při vytváření svých děl za pomoci různých médií a technik od malby, kresby, objektu až po videa. Snažím se definovat, co je to aura, auratičnost v uměleckém díle a jak můžeme charakterizovat tyto znaky. Analyzuji tvůrčí postupy a přístupy jak po formální, tak po obsahové stránce u vybraných umělců a hledám klíč k tomu, co činí jejich dílo auratické. Mým cílem je spojovat umělce ze starší generace a ze současného umění a nalézt jejich podobné motivy a postupy práce, ve kterých se shodují, nebo naopak neshodují i přes různorodost období, ve kterém každý vybraný autor tvořil. Na základě své zkušenosti pátrám po důležitosti auratičnosti v uměleckých dílech. Práce se dotýká etnografických, společensko-kulturních, antropologických a filozofických oblastí. Tato fakta jsou obsažena v samotném rozboru u každého umělce a jeho díla. Připojuji i své myšlenky a vlastní vnímání k tomuto tématu práce.
  • Psychiatry and Photography:

    The intimate ties connecting photography and psychiatry date back to the late nineteenth century. Early adopting physicians such as British psychiatrist, Hugh Welch Diamond, and French neurologist, Jean-Martin Charcot believed that photography could aid in the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric patients. They utilized the medium to record, catalog, and disseminate what they found to be insanity’s phenotype, a set of observable and visual characteristics or traits. This thesis will explore the implications that photography as a diagnostic tool has had on the perception, and therefore, care and treatment of psychiatric patients. It will argue that the historically irresponsible use of photography and its acceptance as truth has perpetuated negative archetypes of mental illness. The paper will also recommend that medical professionals exercise caution when using the physical medium of photography as a means to reveal and interpret the less tangible causes of mental illness.
  • The Myth of Žižkov:

    This content analysis concentrates on a district in the Czech capital Prague, called Žižkov. It is argued that the “social myth” of Žižkov does not fully comply with its current socioeconomic condition. The “gentrification” of the area seems generally well known, however, the social narrative of Žižkov hangs on to its “underground” image. To trace the divergence between narrative and image, the theoretical framework is based on mythological and hegemonic, discursive structures. Thus, this study takes the main empirical base in historical and contemporary documentation in the form of photography. The data sources therefore include historical accounts of existing, qualitative documentation by historically active photographers, as well as contemporary image-makers in Žižkov. Based on the content sampled in this analysis, it is suggested that the myth of Žižkov today, though still retaining “underground” elements, has become saturated with commercial undertones. As such, the current forces of gentrification seem to coexist with older values, such as the “underground” and “unruly” lifestyles. But contemporary images, at least from the samples provided in this case, do not show much political sense of this current friction, as opposed to the older photographs.
  • The Political Expression in Chinese Landscape Photography

    This article reviews the development of Chinese contemporary photography, discussing the birth of landscape photography, its creative methods, and the social issues that photographers are concerned about. Landscape photography combines documentary photography and conceptual photography. This allows Chinese landscape photography to continue the civilian and critical nature of documentary photography in terms of political stance. At the same time, the creative method is more contemporary. In terms of creative methods, photographers use road photography, ruin photography, and red images to express their political opinions. The thesis reveals that landscape photography has the ambiguity of position and the profundity of criticism in terms of political expression. It breaks away from the traditional disciplines of photojournalism in Chinese photography, cancels the privilege of "moment", and incorporates the space that has been ignored by Chinese documentary photography into the main body of expression.
  • Vývoj obrazové formulace architektury v době digitálního rozvoje

    Práce se věnuje dvěma hlavním tématům vztahu fotografie a architektury a jejich vývojem v době příchodu masivní digitalizace. Technologicky zkoumá nové možnosti zachycení obrazu v rámci fotografování architektury a porovnává je s klasicky zažitými způsoby snímání z doby před používáním standardně dostupných digitálních fotografických přístrojů a počítačů. Dále popisuje nové možnosti prezentace obrazů reprezentujících architekturu, které s příchodem digitální éry fotografických přístrojů a rozvoje 3D renderování obrazu ruku v ruce rozšiřují obrazovou složku tiskových i digitálních magazínů, popř. katalogů, sociálních sítí a dalších forem prezentace architektury, díky jednoduchosti jejího pořízení i prezentování.
