- Archaeology of Editing Rhythm:Tseng, Michelle Tzu-Man(Akademie múzických umění v Praze.Filmová a televizní fakulta, 2024)Datum obhajoby: 2024-09-06The thesis explores the concept of slow cinema through the works of the Malaysian-Taiwanese auteur Tsai Mingliang, examining his techniques and effects to craft nuanced depictions of boredom and distinctive pacing in two-dimensional (2D) cinema and Virtual Reality (VR) platforms. Drawing upon film theories informed by Bergsonian temporal epistemology, the research investigates Tsai Mingliang's minimalist film language in hyperbolic realism, understood as a response to the modern view of linear time propagated by Colonialism. Within the framework of media archaeology, the study analyses Tsai's distinctive use of stasis' in editing. By contrasting the feature film Days with his VR experiment The Deserted: VR, the thesis highlights its contribution to the discourse on film languages and the evolving interplay between cinema and VR film.
